Life Is Too Short To . . .

"Life is too short to stuff a mushroom and
also too short to waste in hanging back,
underselling yourself and
being less than your best."
Lynda Field

What a great quote.  The words in this quote are inspiring to say the least.  When reading the words of this quote here are my thoughts on it.

"Life is too short to stuff a mushroom
Don't do a job that bores you, or one that you do not have a passion for.  Life goes by very quickly and we need to do the things we want to do.

also too short to waste in hanging back,
Sometimes we have to take risks in life, we have to step our of our comfort zone.  Rather than hesitating take that step and achieve the life you want.

underselling yourself and
Never give up. Don't tell yourself you can't do it.  Do not sell yourself short.  Have confidence in your abilities.  Learn from your mistakes.  Don't quit.

These inspiring words were taken from the book, Weekend Life Coach, written by Lynda Field.  A great book to read and many more quotes can be found.  Needs some inspiration read this book!

being less than your best."
You owe it to yourself to do the best you can do.  Never take shortcuts or give less than your best.  If you do the only person you are hurting is yourself.

How To Motivate Others

"The desire to contribute to others and be appreciated for it is
one of the most powerful motivators."
Dr. Rick Brinkman and Dr. Rick Kirschner

Whether we acknowledge it or not to feel that we have contributed and more importantly, to be appreciated for what you have done is truly motivation that we all feel.  Think of times when you have done something for someone and they then expressed their thanks for what you have done.  It always makes us feel good, and usually we would be willing to help that person again.

But how do we handle the person that does not appreciate what you have done.  How does it make you feel.  You certainly are not motivated.  You may even feel like you are being used.  I guess the way to deal with these type of people is to recognize that they are the ones with the problem - not you.  I truly believe what goes around comes around.  So you may not be appreciated by that person but you will be acknowledged somewhere else.  Don't let the unappreciative person stop you from helping others.

There are quotes about what motivates people but the one above is one that we should all remember.  For ourselves, and more importantly in our relationships with other people.  If you want other people to be motivated then appreciate what they have already done.

This quote in itself is one that can help us have better relations in all aspects of our lives - with our family, with our spouse, with our children, with our co-workers.

A Blessing of Kindness

"Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference.
They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver."
Barbara De Angelis

There are many sayings about kindness but the one said by Barbara DeAngelis are truly inspiring words in my opinion.  If we all just did that one thing the demonstrated love and kindness what a better place this world of ours would be.

I have had a recent situation where for years I have shown love and kindness to a certain individual.  Yet, the person does not appear to realize how much I truly cared.  He is a young man who does not appear to have matured.  He is acting very self centered and doesn't appear to appreciate the things done for him.  At a recent event I truly felt like taking him aside and saying how I felt.  But to what good would that do?  What blessings would I feel?  The answer to both questions is none.

I have had other situations where I have done very small acts of kindness and the response has been very different.  The person appreciated the act and you would have thought I had given them a million dollars.

But the acts of kindness and love that I find give me the most blessings are the ones where the person never knew it was me behind them.  In those situations I could feel the blessings from showing the kindness.

So while I am disappointed and perhaps a bit hurt from my first example of the young man, upon reflection I feel that someday maybe this young man will realize.  But for today I will focus my attention on those who need and appreciate kindness shown to them.

There is a saying that goes something like this, "do something good for someone else but don't let them know it was you who did it."   That is where you will find blessings for the act.  When you don't take credit for it.  Perhaps my downfall was expecting credit from the young man, and because of my expectations I was let down.  Perhaps I should not have expectations and then I would not be hurt.  But in the end will I stop being kind to this young man....the answer is no.  It is my hope that someday he will return the kindness shown to him.

Laughter is something that starts a friendship; it can bring a smile to a otherwise gloomy day; it has been proven to reduce stress.  It is something that we all need in our lives. Think of the last time you spent with friends and the laughter that you shared.  It will always bring a smile to your face. E.E. Cummings once said,  "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter."  How true his words are!
